Kristine Larison, RNC, BSN, MBA-HCA Kristine Larison has twenty years of high risk obstetric nursing experience and seven years of nursing management. She is the Director of Maternal/Child Services at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR. She has widely spoken on quality in obstetrics including PURE Conversations and on multiple perinatal quality improvement initiatives. Her many publications include topics around teamwork, safety and communication in the perinatal area. Additionally, Kristine is a content expert for an SBARR and Operative vaginal delivery e-learning course for Advanced Practice Strategies. |

Preventing Late Preterm Births since Every Week Counts
This webinar will provide maternal/child nurses with evidence based information on the Late Preterm Infant.Objectives:
- Review the impact of late preterm birth (34 0/7-36 6/7 wks) on increasing rates of preterm birth in the US.
- Discuss the evidence that “every week counts” (short and long term sequellae.)
- Describe some evidence based interventions that can prevent some preventable late preterm birth.
- Present some preliminary results from the Kentucky based initiative Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait.

Karla Damus PhD, MSPH, RN, FAAN Dr. Damus is an Associate Clinical Professor and Dir. of the Div. of Public Health and Community Programs in the Dept. of Ob/Gyn and Women's Health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She is a consultant to the Office of the Medical Director at the National Office of the March of Dimes where she designed and is Program Director of the national model initiative to reduce preterm births in Kentucky - Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait. Dr. Damus is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, a Fellow of the NY Academy of Medicine, and a member of: the Select Expert Panel on Preconception Health, and the Nurse Advisory Council for the National March of Dimes. She is also a consultant to the Ob/Gyn Devices Panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Damus is a perinatal epidemiologist and nurse, having received her PhD in epidemiology from the University of California and two masters degrees from UCLA in Nursing and Public Health. |

Margaret Howard, PhD Margaret Howard, PhD, is the director of the Day Hospital and a clinical associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Howard received her PhD in clinical psychology from Southern Illinois University and completed her internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Brown University. Dr. Howard has 30 years experience in assessing and treating individuals in inpatient, outpatient, and partial hospital settings. Past and current areas of expertise include PTSD, eating disorders, addictions, and mood and anxiety disorders. For the past 12 years, she has focused exclusively on the treatment of perinatal women with mental health disorders. Dr. Howard has published, taught, and lectured widely on the topic of perinatal psychiatric disorders and was the recipient of the 2003 Eli Lilly Welcome Back Award which recognized five individuals nationwide for their innovative approach to the recognition and treatment of depression. |

Milton, MPH, BSN, RN Ms. Milton joined The Joint Commission in 2002 and has worked in the office of quality monitoring and in the sentinel event unit prior to assuming her position as associate project director in the center for performance measurement in the division of quality measurement and research. Ms. Milton is the project lead for two national projects that developed core performance measures for hospital-based inpatient psychiatric services (HBIPS) and perinatal care (PC). Ms. Milton is currently responsible for directing all phases of the PC project including overseeing the development of technical specifications for a final set of ORYX core performance measures. |

Julie Shocksnider, RNC-HROB, APN, C, MS, CCE Julie Shocksnider assists in strategic planning/implementation and provides perinatal clinical expertise. Julie is a Perinatal Nurse Practitioner, Maternal/Child Clinical Nurse Specialist and Childbirth Educator. She is certified as a High Risk Obstetric Nurse with experience caring for antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum women/families. Julie has a Master of Science degree with a focus in maternal/child nursing from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Louisville. |
