CONTRACTS - QUALITY INDICATORS/PATIENT SAFETY

Department of Defense: Perinatal Performance Information Project (Contract W81XWH-05-F-0793)
FY 07 Activities Overview
This project provides the Department of Defense, Office of Chief Medical Officer at the TRICARE Management Activity and all Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) providing perinatal care with quarterly benchmarking reports and a series of specialty reports designed to monitor performance and demonstrate/improve quality of care within the Military Health System (MHS). This is the fourth year of these contract activities designed to support the objectives of the DoD OB Challenge Project. The key data sets used for this Project are the Standard Inpatient Data Record (SIDR) and the Standard Ambulatory Data Record (SADR). All data extracted from these data sets are covered by a Data Use Agreement (# 151C-2) executed by NPIC/QAS and the TMA Privacy Office.

Team Performance Plus (TPP©): Adverse Outcome Index
NPIC/QAS is the data partner for the Harvard Risk Management Strategies Foundation Team Performance Plus (TPP©) team training program. TPP© is a comprehensive program—by clinicians, for clinicians—that provides interdisciplinary team training, for obstetricians, midwives, nurses, and anesthesia providers to ensure safer deliveries, reduce the occurrence of preventable errors, and minimize litigation exposure.   » Learn More

Maryland Patient Safety Center (MPSC) Perinatal Collaborative
The Maryland Patient Safety Center (MPSC) Perinatal Collaborative is an 18-month initiative to test, adopt, and implement evidence-based improvement strategies to improve patient safety in the labor and delivery units of 27 hospitals in Maryland and the District of Columbia. During the 18 months, hospital teams will participate in three learning sessions and an Outcome Congress. NPIC/QAS provides analytic support to this effort.    » Learn More

Premier Perinatal Safety Initiative
American Excess Insurance Exchange, RRG (AEIX) is a hospital owned and controlled excess professional liability company managed by the Premier Insurance Management Services, Inc. (PIMS) a subsidiary of Premier, Inc. AEIX is beginning an 18 month Perinatal Initiative (PI) with a subset of 16 of its managed hospitals with the goal of improving patient safety and reducing risk exposure of the perinatal services at the participating hospitals.

Rhode Island Department of Health: Trends in Prevention Indicators for Hospital Care in Rhode Island
The Rhode Island Department of Health contracted with NPIC/Quality Analytic Services (NPIC/QAS) to provide a trend report that would compare the hospital care provided in the state to national norms and provide background for later reports that would compare Rhode Island hospitals among themselves.

Using the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Patient Safety, Inpatient Quality and Prevention Indicator software and the state discharge abstract data set, NPIC/QAS compared the care provided to inpatients in hospitals in Rhode Island to national data during the six-year period (1999-2004).     » Learn More
