Core Measure Requirements For All Participants
Hospitals are required to collect data and submit to the Joint Commission for four CORE Measure sets or a combination of Core and Non-core measures.
The current requirements are:
- If four applicable core measure sets can be identified, then no non-core measures are required.
- If three applicable core measure sets can be identified, then three non-core measures are required.
(NPIC/QAS can also fulfill non-core submission requirements; please contact us for more information.) - If two applicable core measure sets can be identified, then six non-core measures are required.
- If one applicable core measure sets can be identified, then nine non-core measures are required.
- If no core measure sets are applicable, then nine non-core measures are required.
(Once selected, the hospital must submit data on all applicable measures in the set.)
Perinatal Care - 5 measures: Requires some data variables not generally available in the administrative data set. NPIC/QAS provides a web-based data collection tool for abstraction of maternal and neonatal information from the medical record.

NPIC/QAS Pricing/Data Collection
Non-members: $5,100 for the Perinatal Care Measures Set. NPIC/QAS has a file format for submission of the administrative data required to calculate the sample population for each measure; other file formats such as those submitted to a state data base, can generally be modified easily to meet NPIC/QAS specifications.Members: Perinatal Care Measures Set submitted for no additional charge with annual membership.
For members and non-members: The Joint Commission charges $168 transmission fee per set. This cost is passed on to the hospital.
