CONTACT HOUR PROGRAMS FAQs

CONTACT HOURS

What is a contact hour?

A contact hour is the official term used by the American Nurses Credential Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC) to define a unit of nursing continuing education, which is sixty minutes of an organized learning activity.

How do I get a contact hour?

Individuals wishing to receive a contact hour must complete a post test/evaluation after viewing a live or archived educational event. Certificates of Attendance and Completion are issued using the contact information provided at registration. Registrant's name and email must match in order to receive a contact hour, so a professional email address is required. Your name will appear on the certificate exactly as it is entered in registration.

I watched the live event, but didn't see the post test/evaluation. How can I access this test?

If you attended the live webinar, you would have had to keep your web browser open. The post test/evaluation appears in a separate window (or tab) once the meeting has ended. If your web browser closed completely, you will have to wait until the recording is posted. Archived Contact Hour Programs are posted approximately one week from the date of the live event. At this time, you may skip watching the webinar again, and just choose to take the post test/evaluation. You will be required to complete a one-time registration to access the archived recordings.

If I watched in a group, can I still receive a contact hour?

Yes. Individuals wishing to receive a contact hour after watching in a group may register for the archived version of the event and complete the post test/evaluation. Non-Members must pay a fee of $25 to receive a contact hour from an archived event. Archived recordings are available on our website approximately one week after the live event.

When will I receive my contact hour certificate?

Registrants of both live and archived events will receive their Certificate of Attendance and Completion via email within 14 business days of completion of the post test/evaluation.

What if I missed the live event? Is there a recording available to get a contact hour?

Yes. All educational Archived Contact Hour Programs are available free for NPIC/QAS member hospitals and Military Treatment Facilities. Other interested professionals will be charged a $25.00 fee for each individual contact hour requested. The archived event allows you access to the recorded webinar, the post test and evaluation (which is required for the contact hour) and handouts (if provided).

REGISTRATION/INVITATION

How can I get an announcement?

Subscribe to the NPIC/QAS Announcement List and you will be notified when our next mailing goes out. Subscription to our announcements is free.

What is an invitation?

An invitation provides access to register for a live educational event with our conferencing provider ReadyTalk.  Invitations are sent to individuals who have expressed interest in participating in an NPIC/QAS educational event through our website or via announcement. What is registration?

Registration through our conferencing provider ReadyTalk secures your place at the live event and provides the login and call in information necessary to participate. Participants are encouraged to register upon receiving their invitation. Registration ends the day BEFORE a scheduled live event.

How do I register?

You must request an invitation. To request an invitation, view the upcoming events from on our home page to see which event interests you. Once your request is received, it will be entered into our system (via ReadyTalk) and an invitation will be emailed directly to you. You must use the green “Register Now” Button found in that invitation and complete the registration form.

What if my green "Register Now" button doesn't work?

Perhaps your organization doesn't accept HTML emails. If that is the case, the link behind the "Register Now" button will not activate. Please email education@npic.org to let us know which event you are trying to register for.

Can I register for someone else?

Yes. You are able to register for someone else; however, if a contact hour is desired, registration must be in that individual’s name and professional email address. If registration information does not meet these criteria, a contact hour will not be available. Only one contact hour is available per registrant.

What if I cannot get into the ReadyTalk Meeting Center?

If you have difficulty accessing the ReadyTalk Meeting Center, please view the system requirements necessary for the Meeting Center. You may need to consult with your IT department. If internal IT issues still prevent you from accessing a live education event via ReadyTalk, please note that all of are educational events are archived and available on our website.
